With today's economy it is wise to consolidate your expenses.   Yes even down to feed, care and land.   Recently I have been introduced to Miniature Cattle.   As farms become smaller so have their livestock.   Not only is it cost effective for today's small farm but also allows the farmer to make the most of his or her land.

Miniature cattle are often between 300-700lbs at maturity.   Which is 1/3 of the full sized cattle.   They also eat alot less than full size cattle.   Miniature cattle come in the following sizes (info below provided by www.minicattle.com)

42"-48"= Mid-Size Miniature
37"-42"= Full Miniature
36" and under = Micro Mini

At the present time there are 21 breeds of miniature cattle. Some of these breeds have large numbers of animals while other breeds are in the developmental stages. Dexters have considerable numbers throughout the world now. Miniature Herefords are plentiful although the numbers are smaller. Other breeds numbers range from ten Kentshires to several hundred Zebu. The height standards are the same for every breed and apply to both gender. It needs to be said that when you're dealing with nature there are no absolutes. All of the standards must be considered estimates.

Bunker Family Farms is planning to relocate to Ellijay, Georgia when Leon retires from the military.   Our countdown can be seen on our home page.   There we have already selected a parcel of land and will begin to search out miniature cattle breeders to start our own herd.   We plan on using our miniature cattle for home raised organic beef and also organic milk, butter and cream.

Any breeders of miniature cattle are encouraged to contact us so we can partake of any knowledge and suggestions you may have to offer.   We would be looking to purchase one bull and two to three cows.
